There is no difference in the tax content, however the main difference would be your reason for applying.
If you are looking for a change of career, a new skill set, looking at getting back into the workforce, the opportunity to work with ITP or just something new, then the class-based courses are the only way to go. Here are the benefits:
The self-paced course is designed for those already working in the tax industry and wanting to ensure their knowledge is up to date. This course is not relevant to those wanting to work for ITP.
The standard price of the class-based courses in 2025-26 is $495. Self-paced online courses are also only $495. This price may be discounted at times.

Yes, the full cost of the course is a tax deduction on next years tax return.
Whilst we would love for you to join our team, all employees must complete a class-based Tax Training Course to work with ITP.
All tax consultants for ITP must successfully complete a class-based Tax Training Course.
The In Class & Virtual course contains 13 weeks of Tax Modules, comparable to other courses in the market.
The course also includes exams and a Customer Service module which bring the full course to 20 weeks start to finish.
Self-paced students must finish the course no later than 30th June.
Our Short Course runs for approximately 9 weeks, and starts in April.

We have a Virtual Class option is run outside of standard business hours, on Tuesday & Thursday evenings, which covers the identical content and materials as our In Office locations. Choose the course location that suits, when you enrol for the In Class & Virtual course.
We offer a Virtual Classes course which is run outside of standard business hours, and covers the same content.
No, the content is exactly the same. However in class you will have more opportunities to bounce off the other students during discussions.
The course can be quite challenging. For students in the class-based courses, it is imperative that all of the training sessions are attended, homework completed and reading kept up to date. Students who follow the weekly study program find the course achievable.
We recommend all students allow at least 10-12 hours of self-study at home each week. Class-based courses also include two 2.5hr classes each week, either at an ITP office (In Class course), or online (Virtual Class course).
We highly suggest that you do not miss any classes unless absolutely unavoidable. If you do, it will be your responsibility to complete the online tutorials and submit the required homework and readings to keep pace with the rest of the class.
Yes, but only before the course commences. Once the course commences no transfers will be accepted.
Support for the self-paced course is very limited, but we will try to answer all questions via email.
Yes, the hours you commit to the training course will count towards this requirement.
Job interviews will be conducted for those seeking seasonal employment with ITP. We are always looking for people who have reasonable availability, that can work during the tax season (July to October).
The knowledge learnt in our course is also transferrable, and recognised by other tax agents and accountants throughout Australia.
Students who complete the Self-Paced Online course, will not be offered a job interview, or considered for season employment.
No, ITP is not a recognised training organisation.
Yes, as most of the materials are online you will need access to a computer, preferably a laptop. It is also important to note that our training software is compatible with Windows only, and Apple devices (ie. Macbooks, iPads) are not supported.
Yes, you will need to bring a laptop to each training session. Your laptop MUST be a Windows operating system.
Yes, we provide you with our Wi-Fi password so you can access our online training system.
You will require a computer/laptop with internet access and preferably a microphone, speaker, and webcam.
The ITP $500 Back Scholarship is a special opportunity for top-performing Tax Training Course students. If awarded, you’ll receive $500 cash as recognition of your hard work and commitment.
We will be awarding 1-3 scholarships per region across Brisbane West, Gold Coast, Townsville, Mackay and Rockhampton

Scholarship recipients will be notified after the completed of the course and the recruitment process for the 2026 tax season.
If successful, $500 will be processed through your wages (tax will be withheld).
