Frequently Asked Questions

Not sure about our tax courses?
What are the different courses you offer?
+

We offer three different Full courses:

  • In Class”
  • “Virtual Classes”
  • “Self-Paced Online”

We also run a short course for those seeking employment with ITP for the current year.

What will the course teach me?
+

Our course is designed to teach you everything you need to know to professionally prepare different types of tax returns under a registered tax agent.

What is the difference between the class-based and self-paced courses?
+

There is no difference in the tax content, however the main difference would be your reason for applying.

If you are looking for a change of career, a new skill set, looking at getting back into the workforce, the opportunity to work with ITP or just something new, then the class-based courses are the only way to go. Here are the benefits:

  • No previous tax experience is required, you just need to be good with numbers and love working with people
  • Each year ITP offers successful students from the class-based courses the opportunity to work with us. Self-paced students will not have this option
  • Class-based students work one-on-one with their teacher and receive support and guidance all the way through the course.

The self-paced course is designed for those already working in the tax industry and wanting to ensure their knowledge is up to date. This course is not relevant to those wanting to work for ITP.

How much do your courses cost?
+

The standard price of the class-based courses in 2025-26 is $495. Self-paced online courses are also only $495. This price may be discounted at times.

Our Short Course starts from only $99.

How can I pay for the course?
+

We accept the following payment methods:

  • Cash (In Office only)
  • Credit Card / Debit Card

We are also the only tax training course to offer payment plans to students.

Can I claim the course as a deduction on next year’s tax return?
+

Yes, the full cost of the course is a tax deduction on next years tax return.

+

All tax consultants for ITP must successfully complete a class-based Tax Training Course.

How long does the course go for?
+

The course also includes exams and a Customer Service module which bring the full course to 20 weeks start to finish.

Self-paced students must finish the course no later than 30th June.

+

We offer a Virtual Classes course which is run outside of standard business hours, and covers the same content.

+

No, the content is exactly the same. However in class you will have more opportunities to bounce off the other students during discussions.

How difficult is the course?
+

How much time should I set aside for study each week?
+

We recommend all students allow at least 10-12 hours of self-study at home each week. Class-based courses also include two 2.5hr classes each week, either at an ITP office (In Class course), or online (Virtual Class course).

What happens if I miss one class?
+

We highly suggest that you do not miss any classes unless absolutely unavoidable. If you do, it will be your responsibility to complete the online tutorials and submit the required homework and readings to keep pace with the rest of the class.

Can I transfer between courses?
+

Yes, but only before the course commences. Once the course commences no transfers will be accepted.

What teacher support do I get in the self-paced course?
+

Support for the self-paced course is very limited, but we will try to answer all questions via email.

Is this course accepted by the Tax Practitioners Board towards my required 30 hours professional development as a CPA?
+

Yes, the hours you commit to the training course will count towards this requirement.

What job opportunities are available, if I do either of the class-based courses?
